Where we areThe territory

Old vineyards enclosed by dry stone walls, late harvesting of the grapes and slow ageing. In Sava, a small Apulian town nestled in the Taranto Murgia, Primitivo wine is a tradition expertly handed down.

“Il sole fa il vino” (the sun makes the wine) is the saying here, where a peninsula of red earth separates the seas and the wine is an authentic expression of the territory. With the help of the wind, which blows between the Ionian Sea and the Adriatic Sea, colliding against limestone cliffs and sand dunes.

We are located in Salento, the southernmost part of Puglia, the strip of land that forms the heel of the boot, in an area straddling the provinces of Taranto and Brindisi, the real stronghold of the Primitivo grape, the protagonist of our tradition.

Sava is in the heart of the Primitivo di Manduria DOP area, and over the centuries it has always stood out as the true cradle of the Primitivo grape, as it is rich in vineyards cultivated using the bush-trained system, the ancient and traditional Apulian method of cultivation that guarantees a fruit of outstanding quality.

In this area, the terroir is ideal for the growth of these precious little plants: the climate is in fact characterised by high average annual temperatures, dry summers and good temperature ranges; the soil is ‘red earth’, as it is rich in iron oxides, shallow and on a calcareous substratum; sea breezes blow through the vineyards all year round, keeping the environment dry and ventilated and thus guaranteeing the health of the grapes.

This optimal combination of factors is crowned by the know-how of experienced winegrowers who have passed on their knowledge of how to care for vineyards to future generations.

Every night the moon passes over our grapes, to which it gives a gentle glow, and watches over the vineyards while the experienced winegrowers rest.
To its mysterious and benevolent care we entrust the excellence of our wines.

The companyTerre di Sava

The Terre di Sava winery was established in 2008, and since then has taken up the challenge of passing on the ancient tradition of respecting, preserving and improving this centuries-old heritage. Terre di Sava’s production philosophy is to take care of every little step, from the vineyard to the vinification and ageing process, so that the organoleptic properties of the wine best expresses the raw material, the fruit, its intensity and its precious aromatic complexity, which we always try to protect.
To this end, the company makes use of the best professionalism, in the cellar as well as in the vineyard, and relies not only on the Apulian winemaking tradition, but also on modern winemaking technologies that guarantee high standards of product quality in terms of taste and aroma, as well as safety.

Research, experience and professionalism are among the ingredients that make it possible to cultivate the ambition to steer a decisive course towards quality.

The brandMiluna

From this small area of choice of the Primitivo di Manduria and cradle of the denomination of origin, the MILUNA range of wines embodies Salento, both in its most typical and most innovative expressions.
Primitivo and Negroamaro are selected from plots of red earth, limestone and sand, where old bush-trained plants coexist with Mediterranean shrubs such as rosemary, thyme and lentisk, caressed by the savoury breezes that blow all year round from the seas around Puglia. Miluna wines are characterised by a pronounced natural minerality that is recognisable both in the impressive meditation reds and in the freshness of the delicate and versatile rosés, a subtle variation on the great indigenous red grapes.
